About Us
Our Vision

A sustainable, reliable energy future for all

Our Mission

To advance the state of thermal energy storage and concentrating solar technologies

What do wind energy, hydropower, and biomass have in common?— they are indirectly powered by sunlight. At Præcis Engineering & Design (Præcis), we are passionate about harnessing this power closer to its source, The Sun, to achieve high energy conversion efficiencies and shape a cleaner, more sustainable future for all. To this end, we specialize by providing unique research and development (R&D) services to advance the state of concentrating solar power, thermal energy storage, solar thermochemical processing, and solar fuel technologies.

Our Core

Founded by precision manufacturing engineers, we take pride in maintaining precise, high-quality standards in every aspect of our work. We collaborate closely with our partners and clients to develop and refine their concepts in a lean fashion. In doing so, we leverage years of experience working between academia and industry in the solar thermal landscape, including government contracting, laboratory development, and safety culture and standards set forth by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Battelle Memorial Institute's Laboratory Operations and Supervisor Academy (LOSA).

Patrick Davenport
Patrick is co-founder and CEO of Præcis. He brings more than a decade of cross-disciplinary expertise in the principles of solar-thermal, mechanical, materials, and manufacturing engineering, together with first-hand fabrication and machining experience. Link to Patrick's Google Scholar and ORCID.
Previously, Patrick was a staff researcher in the Concentrating Solar Power group at the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). He also worked as a support engineer on the Sun-to-Liquid project for the Professorship of Renewable Energy Carriers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ), and at the Solar Technology Laboratory of the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).
